Welcome Back, Herd: Columbia’s Market Season Meets Mizzou Move-In

There’s a specific kind of energy that hits Columbia, Missouri every fall — moving trucks on Rollins, dorm lofts going up, and the Columbia Farmers Market packed with a fresh wave of faces figuring out where the good tomatoes are. Welcome back, Mizzou.

And this year it’s got extra weight behind it: Mizzou kicks off its 2026 season on Thursday, September 3, hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Memorial Stadium — the first home game in the stadium’s 100th season, with a freshly renovated north end zone to break in. CoMo doesn’t do quiet Augusts, and this fall is no exception.

A Market Built for Community

The Columbia Farmers Market runs producer-only, every Saturday at Agriculture Park under the MU Health Care Pavilion — real vendors, real local food, live music, kids running around, the whole thing. It’s one of the few spots in town where longtime Columbia residents and brand-new MU students end up standing in the same line for the same peaches.

That’s not nothing. A market is one of the last places where a college town remembers it’s also just a town — where “welcome back” means something to everyone, not just the ones with a class schedule.
