Fight Like You’re Drowning

There’s a moment underwater when your lungs start screaming and your body wants to just stop. That’s the moment that decides everything. Not the moment before, not the moment after, that exact second. Because in that second you have two options. You can go still and let the water win, or you can fight like your life depends on it, because it does.
Life pushes all of us under sometimes. Grief, failure, heartbreak, burnout. It doesn’t ask permission and it doesn’t care if you’re ready. And when it happens, you will not be able to breathe for a while. That’s not a sign you’re broken, that’s just what being underwater feels like. The danger was never the water. The danger is giving up on reaching the surface.
Here’s the thing nobody tells you. You don’t grow from calm water. You grow from the fight. Every person who has ever come back stronger from something brutal did it because they refused to stop kicking toward the light, even when their body told them it was pointless. The fighting isn’t the punishment. The fighting is the whole point. It’s what turns almost-drowning into a story you survived.
So if you’re under right now, if you’re in that place where breathing feels impossible, this is your reminder. Don’t go still. Kick. Claw. Fight like it’s life or death, because right now, it actually is. And on the other side of that fight is air, and light, and a version of you that knows exactly what they’re made of.
